Sound Installation: Abstract Music (GINZA ver.)
Abstract Music is a sound installation by composer Keiichiro Shibuya, conceived to merge seamlessly with architecture, nature, art, and public space.
A vast archive of Shibuya’s sound data is continuously recomposed, processed, and transformed in real time by a program, ensuring that no two moments are ever the same.
Sound moves freely through the space—like clouds, wind, or a membrane—sometimes unfolding in multiple layers, sometimes filling the space with a single tone, followed by moments of silence. There is no conventional background music or playlist; this permanently installed sound installation exists as the sole musical presence, generating new resonances as part of the space itself.
For POLA GINZA, Abstract Music POLA ver. was newly created in response to the organic, virtual-forest-like space designed by Kazuyo Sejima.
Through AI-generated readings, questions such as “What is beauty?” and “How can one become beautiful?” continue to emerge, as if softly speaking to each visitor.
A total of 46 speakers—26 on the ground floor and 20 in the basement—are installed throughout the building, creating an immersive sound environment.
