s[a:ou]nd generates a constantly random sound environment by collecting and processing the interior of an hourglass with different cycles of 3, 6, and 9 minutes using a contact microphone. Instead of sand, the hourglass contains silica gel, a desiccant, which captures both the sound of the gel striking the microphone and the state of the microphone being buried inside.
The sound and silence that continue to generate and change with these different cycles make up this artwork. Therefore, the trigger for sound generation is you, the visitor to this space. Please try rotating the hourglass slowly and quietly. Additionally, this work is inspired by the three benches arranged at the entrance, with everything, including the spacing of the benches and the time of the hourglass, being structured around multiples of three.
