Piano - Ring for Violin and Piano for Cartier Women's Initiative
Composed especially for the Cartier Women’s Initiative, Ring for Violin and Piano (2025) is a fluid dialogue between sound and body, born from the resonance of three distinct sensibilities.
The composer’s point of departure was a ring once given to him — a form that appears stable, yet holds a delicate, fleeting quality. Its beauty lies in the light it reflects, in the shimmering dance of brightness and shadow that inspired the piece. Keiichiro Shibuya on piano, Sumire Hirotsuru on violin, and Chiaki Hotta in dance float through the amorphous contours of the music, breathing life into the space as they search for each other’s rhythms and movements.
The composition also draws faint inspiration from a piece of the same name by Tōru Takemitsu.
