MIRROR Ghost
The concert “MIRROR Ghost” embodies an apocalyptic concept. It eliminates the symbolism and signifiers—such as real androids and human orchestras—that appeared in Shibuya’s previous android opera, replacing them entirely with artificial expressions that emerge like “ghosts.” Synthetic vocals and an artificial orchestra were played through surround speakers. In an atmosphere created by skillfully designed lighting effects and intermittent mists, projections allowed lyrics to float in the space, creating an effect where only immaterial elements surfaced like “ghosts” in the darkness. Shibuya’s delicate piano performance, the “only human performance,” serves as a metaphor for humanity confronting the end of the world.

At the museum Grand Palais in Paris, France, Keiichiro Shibuya held a concert.
This performance was part of the closing event for Chiharu Shiota’s exhibition “Soul Shaking,” which concluded on Wednesday, March 19. Not only concert, but also at the beginning of the event, Shibuya’s sound installation work “Abstract Music,” proclaiming that it will “never be repeated, continuously evolving forever,” resonated throughout the venue. A poetry reading overlapped with the music, generated by an AI program that creates infinite poems, crafted by the emerging artist Hiroshi Kishi. As the audience moved through the space, they experienced a new form of art combining music and AI in the museum setting.
This performance was also presented as a prototype for a project selected under the support of Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan, Japan Arts Council. Aimed at fostering young creators and promoting international experience, it involved not only artists but also aspiring stage staff and producers.
