Keiichiro Shibuya performed a solo live show in Paris this month. The venue was Silencio, a club produced by David Lynch, where his unique world is fully reflected in everything from the concept to the interior design. Known as a renowned club among those in the know in Paris, it features a distinctly Lynchian aesthetic, including red curtains on the stage reminiscent of the ones seen in films like Blue Velvet, all housed in a dimly lit basement.

Having previously focused on major theater venues in Paris, such as the three consecutive performances of THE END at Théâtre du Châtelet and his collaboration with ballet dancers at the Paris Opera, this was Shibuya’s first full-fledged live club performance in Paris. The event, held by invitation only, attracted significant attention.
As with his recent work, Parade for the End of the World, which gained much acclaim at the Yokohama Dance Collection, Shibuya collaborated with Paris-based visual artist Justine Emard, who participated with video projections. This marked a completely new collaboration between the two. Additionally, Takami Nakamoto, part of the globally renowned Paris-based media art unit nonotak, participated as a DJ for the opening act.
The live performance was standing-room only. Shibuya described his intent for the show, saying, “I want to deconstruct and fragment both recent works and unreleased new pieces using piano and computer, and reconstruct them with beats centered around a rhythm machine. This will not just be a showcase but more like a self-dub mix of my own work.” As a result, the performance was expected to be dance-oriented, featuring beats driven by piano, computer, and drum machines. The concert title, Secret Trap, hinted at a live performance influenced by the trap music style Shibuya has been exploring in recent years.
COMMENT
I am excited to perform a solo show at Silencio.
I want to deconstruct and fragment recent works and unreleased new pieces using piano and computer, and reconstruct them with beats centered around a rhythm machine. This will not just be a showcase but more like a self-dub mix of my own work.
I am also delighted to invite visual artist Justine Emard and nonotak’s Takami Nakamoto as guest collaborators. Together, I want to create a night that feels like a future imagined from a past that could have been.
