Android Aria “Seeds of Prophecy” for LEFFEST at Teatro Tivoli, Lisbon

ABOUT WORK

Keiichiro Shibuya performed his new work Android Aria “Seeds of Prophecy” with an android, his piano and electronics at the closing ceremony of the Lisbon Film Festival “LEFFEST” (https://leffest.com) in Lisbon, Portugal on Saturday, November 18, local time, at the Tivoli Theater in Lisbon.

The performance featured a new piece called “Seeds of Prophecy” in addition to a piano and electronics performance of the music presented at the Android Opera “MIRROR” at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris in June. An android sings the lyrics by GPT, which learned from articles about the recent unstable conflicts and wars, with an improvised melody in response to Shibuya’s performance on the spot. What emotions will the lyrics, which seem to predict a world by non-humans, lead the audience to?

The Lisbon Film Festival, now in its 17th year, was extremely exciting, not only for the contemporary films presented but also for the wide variety of artists who participated.
Laurie Anderson gave a talk session on artificial intelligence and artistic creation, and a concert by world-renowned violinist Gidon Kremer took place the day before the Shibuya concert. The event was also international and cutting-edge, with an installation featuring Jean-Luc Godard’s work “The Book of Images” on display. Also from the film world, there was a talk session by Pedro Costa, and master classes by prominent film directors including Leos Carax and Ryusuke Hamaguchi from Japan.
