Android Opera at Dubai Expo, for national day of Japan on Dec 11 – POSTPONED

Having just completed the world premiere of his new opera ‘Super Angels’ at the New National Theatre, Tokyo on 21 and 22 August, musician SHIBUYA Keiichiro will perform on the main stage of the Dubai International Expo 2020 on Saturday 11 December 2021, as part of the Japan Pavilion’s ‘Japan Day’ event. The performance will collaborate between Androids, a Buddhist music statement from Koyasan, and a UAE orchestra based in Dubai.

The Dubai Expo will be the first registered Expo in the Middle East and Africa to be held between 1 October 2021 and 31 March 2022, following a one-year delay following the Corona disaster. In addition, it will be the first registered World Expo in the Middle East and Africa to be held in Dubai, UAE. One hundred ninety-two countries participate in this significant event, which will attract around 25 million visitors.

Japan Day, scheduled for Saturday 11 December, will be held during the exhibition period as a “National Day”, when the organizers of the Dubai Expo will celebrate the participation of each participating country. Furthermore, on Japan Day, the Japan Pavilion and related organizations will hold a series of cultural events at various locations around the exhibition site to introduce Japan.

In line with the theme of the Dubai Expo, “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,” the stage performance will include the android “Alter3” (supported by mixi, Inc.), who was in the opera “Scary Beauty” and the new opera “Super Angels,” will perform as a singer and conductor.

In addition, five monks, traditional Buddhist chant (Shomyo), including Eizen Fujiwara, who collaborated with Shibuya when Ars Electronica in 2019. Furthermore, the orchestra NSO Symphony Orchestra (UAE) will join the stage once again since the last performance in Sharjah, UAE, in 2020.

Shibuya’s new work will be performed in Dubai’s futuristic and cosmopolitan Middle East and will attract an audience at the Expo.
